Government Official Confirms MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Staff Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is actively examining the potential security risks posed by Chinese vehicles, and staff have been advised to refrain from discussing secret matters in any cars.

Security Advice for MoD Personnel

In a recent appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about secret information while travelling in Chinese cars.

The minister stated that the MoD is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however emphasised that security is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a secret level in any kind of vehicle, because of the increasing threats of surveillance that exist in all automobile, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. That’s a wise and sensible thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Security Context

This revelation follows claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow China to switch off public transport and cause disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship has been directing laser beams at RAF pilots, described as a “extremely risky” act by government representatives.

This broader security environment underscores the importance of strong protocols and vigilance in all areas of government activities, from vehicle use to discussions habits.
