Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent defended four early chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
